To-do list

We don't even have possession of the house yet and already we have a to-do list that is a mile kilometer long!

TO DO (in no particular order):
  • fix foundation
  • paint outside of house
  • create laundry storage and work space
  • build storage shelving in basement
  • rebuild garage
  • plant a garden
  • replace exterior doors
  • replace exterior windows
  • repaint green/purple room
  • repair cracks in plaster wall in foyer
  • repair (mud/tape) in upstairs bathroom
  • put supports under front porch
  • replace rotted facing on front roofline
  • more insulation in attic
  • regrade northeast corner of property
  • and it keeps going.....

Some of the things on it are must-do items while others are would-like-to-do items. I think that the to-do list will be around for as long as we are in the house and it will be constantly evolving. The plan right now is to put everything we can think of on the list and then prioritize based on necessity, budget and time.

lovely renovated kitchen

While this list looks really long, one of the reasons we bought this house is that the inside had already been renovated by the previous owners and the main living floors are move-in ready. There is nothing that we have to do to the interior before we can put our furniture in place (except maybe paint the one room, it's really bright).

I think we need to change the paint colours...and maybe
plan some built in storage since none of this furniture is ours.
Add it to the list!

The winter will give us some time to plan for the upcoming outdoor repair season. I think it will be another busy year! I'm looking forward to it :)

We bought a house!

Welcome. Join us as we (a newlywed couple in their 30s) start a new chapter in our lives as homeowners.

It's been a big year! The significant other returned from his tour in Afghanistan, we got married, and now we've bought a house. That's a lot of things for 2012. We don't move into our new home until January, so it will be a good start to 2013.

I decided to start this blog as a place to solicit ideas, vent, record successes and failures (because we know there will be both) and document our journey as we make this house our forever home. Hopefully this will help other people who have decided to invest in making an older home their own (or just be a source of entertainment). I'm sure it's going to be an interesting journey.
